About WKC

Set in a bucolic valley in East Meredith, New York, the West Kortright Center is a dynamic non-profit cultural institution dedicated to building community through extraordinary cultural and educational experiences.

What We Do

Each season, we host a diverse mix of music, theater, exhibitions, and workshops in our indoor space with awe-inspiring architecture and acoustics or outdoors amidst breathtaking views and open sky.

Through our long-standing youth enrichment programs, Opening Acts and Shakespeare in the Valley, local kids and teenagers have the opportunity to learn from the best and showcase their talents.

WKC is also available for public use and low-cost rentals.

Our Mission

To bring world-class arts programming and educational opportunities to our evolving rural communities.

Our Vision

To inspire, empower, and bring joy to people of all ages and backgrounds through vital cultural experiences.

All Are Welcome

Established in 1975, the West Kortright Center is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to amplifying diverse voices from around the corner, country, and world.

Musicians, artists, poets, actors, writers, dancers, teachers, and more have traveled here from as far and wide as Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Ukraine, Iran, Palestine, Angola, Gambia, Mali, Morocco, South Africa, Uganda, Zaire, and Zimbabwe.

Our History

Since its inception in 1850, the home of the West Kortright Center has always served as a focal point for the community. In 1975, after 121 years as a Presbyterian Church, hundreds of local residents gathered to save the Greek Revival structure and give it new life as a non-profit arts center, returning it for community use.

Now a historic landmark, the West Kortright Center has lovingly preserved and cared for the building’s original character—magnificent stained glass, woodwork, chandeliers, and acoustical design—enjoyed by generations of members, visitors, and artists from near and far.
